Royce Lovett on ‘Write It On The Wall’ and follow-up EP

Royce Lovett, a Tallahassee, Florida-based artist signed to Motown Gospel, sat down with Rapzilla at SXSW 2016 to talk about his 2015 EP Write It on the Wall.

“The whole concept about [the EP] was to bring awareness to every culture and different generations of love, and what love can do to change your perception and your perspective — how you treat people — because I feel that’s what Jesus did,” Lovett said. “And I feel like that’s what just good people should do, to allow someone to elevate themselves in whatever they want to be, from whatever situation they find themselves in. Everything from ‘Write It on the Wall’ to ‘Show Me Love’ to ‘Say Something’ to ‘Down for Whatever’ are all pieces of trying to convey that part of love.”

Lovett said he tentatively plans to release another EP titled Love Wins in August.

“It’s kind of a continuation of Write it on the Wall because on “Write it on the Wall”, in the hook it says, ‘If I could write it on the wall for all the world to see, it would be a song of freedom, it would be a world of peace. God is love, God is real,’” Lovett said, “and so I think we’re going to call it Love Wins. And there’s a lot of different things in this one that we talk about — being free of different attitudes, being free of bondage that we put ourselves in, that we don’t know we put ourselves in. I’m talking about not thinking about materialistic things, and knowing who God is, knowing what success is, what success isn’t.”
