Lecrae on Tori Kelly: ‘You’ll see something in the future’

Lecrae and pop star Tori Kelly performed alongside each other in June, and the rapper hinted that they’re not done collaborating in a recent interview with GRAMMY Pro.

Kelly came up when Lecrae was asked about standing out in mainstream music as a positive artist.

“I actually kind of enjoy people not expecting much because as a Christian, people are like, ‘Eh, is the art going to be sub-par? Hip hop and Christianity, they don’t just have this great, long-standing history,” Lecrae said, before later adding, “That’s why you just got to stand strong and be yourself in the midst of it all. That’s the weight that I carry, but it’s all good. I enjoy it.

“There’s a lot of people coming up behind me, too. A lot of people are freer to be themselves. Now you got Mali Music’s and Tori Kelly’s, who are very uplifting and very positive, and they don’t mind being who they are and representing themselves.”

Few pop stars as prominent as Kelly have been as vocal about their Christian faith. Her new album, Unbreakable Smile, released on Capitol Records in July, debuted at No. 2 on Billboard and featured Ed Sheeran and LL Cool J.

“She brought me out at a Nashville show. It was good,” Lecrae said. “You’ll see something in the future.”
