Christian hip-hop artist Lawren spoke to Rapzilla about his upcoming concept project Pieces, and unveiled the cover and concept for the record.
“I’m talking about the pieces of my life and how they fit together,” said Lawren. “Also, how they’re broken and how Jesus puts them together.”
The album is very transparent about how he and his wife got together, how their daughter was born, his life growing up in the hood, and the life of his father, a Cuban exile. It is all tied together with redemption in Jesus.
Lawren said the record features about 60% boom-bap rap and 40% trap. He said the trap songs have a message in it and is not “just mumbling on a track.” The visuals and artwork are also top notch.
The features include nobigdyl, Dre Murray, B. Cooper, ABIV, Beleaf, and, Wxnder Y.
There are eight tracks with two being bonus tracks, and he originally thought of the record as an EP but now has decided on it being an album. “We wanted a longer project and my supporters wanted something longer. We didn’t sacrifice quality for quantity.”
As part of the “Pieces” of his life, Lawren is dropping the album on his birthday, August 12.
Stay tuned for more with Lawren as he breaks down the tracks of the album.
