Blacksheep of the Month: Andre Ward

Welcome to our monthly segment, Blacksheep of the Month! It’s where we highlight and illustrate individuals who show the qualities of what our definition of a blacksheep is. We highlight people who counter the culture, aren’t afraid to be peculiar and use their platform to be a light in the middle of darkness. For the month of April we highlight the tenacious and amazing Andre Ward.

Andre Ward is a former American boxer who started his professional boxing career right after winning the gold in the light heavyweight division at the 2004 Olympics. He retired in 2017 with an undefeated record of 32-0 with 16 of those being wins by knockout. And as awesome as all of that is, what shines the most to us is his love for God. Just to show you how serious his faith is to him, the man’s nickname is S.O.G. (Son of God).

We personally love the fact that Andre Ward uses his platform to profess his love of Christ. He acknowledges in countless interviews and pre fight documentaries that he wouldn’t be where he is today without his unwavering faith in God. What is also admirable is how active he is with his family, making them a top priority, even when preparing for a big fight. Eating with his kids, listening to their stories, and then going back to training. He is the great example of what it looks like to be a God fearing man.

Ward recently announced he will be a part of reviving Mark Burnett’s boxing reality series ‘The Contender’.
