Top 10 Most Anticipated Summer 2018 Movies

Solo

I love Star Wars, but if I’m honest, I’m feeling a bit fatigued by it. There’s so much Star Wars everywhere these days, and I think the only thing that makes me excited about this flick is Donald Glover as Lando. Alden Ehrenreich, the kid they got to play Han Solo, looks nothing like Harrison Ford, though he does have a similar vibe. And, I may be a purist but having so many familiar faces in a Star Wars movie (Emilia Clarke, Woody Harelson) brings me a little further out of the universe. All of my gripings aside, I’m excited to see another Star Wars movie, and until they make one that’s terrible, I’ll likely be in the theater to see it.

Incredibles 2

The Incredibles is likely my favorite Pixar movie. I think it’s because it’s the only good Fantastic Four movie, it has extremely likable characters, the story is Marvel’s Civil War before they had the idea, the animation that still holds up, and the Sam Jackson. Brad Bird, who directed the first one, is back with the rest of the cast to pick up directly where the first movie left off. We know without a doubt that it will be full of action, fantastic animation, and will likely make me cry at least once. It is a Pixar flick after all. Don’t front like those Pixar movies don’t make you cry. If not, you need to get in closer touch with your feelings. We’ll see Bob and family back on the big screen on June 15.

Jurrassic World: Fallen Kingdom

When Jurassic World was first announced in 2015, I was less than excited for it. I had no need to revisit that world and I thought the three movies that came before it said all that probably should be said about Crichton and Speilberg’s prehistoric theme park. The trailers got me though, and whether through the sheer wit of Chris Pratt or the promise of a crazy hybrid killer super-dino, I gave in. I was very pleasantly surprised, and while I don’t think it’s the best movie ever made, it’s the second best Jurassic Park. They made it off the island at the end of that one but have decided to go back to save the dinosaurs from another extinction level event as the island becomes volcanic. We’ll find out if Pratt can save all the dinos on June 22.

Ant-Man and Wasp

I Kill Giants

One of the nicer surprises from the last several Marvel movies was Ant-Man. Paul Rudd is excellent as the burglar turned superhero and the inclusion of Michael Douglass and Evangeline Lilly rounded out that cast. The trailer for the sequel looks fantastic and seems to be adding a good bit to Evangeline Lilly’s role, and the way that she and Rudd play off of each other is worth the price of a ticket anyway. We’ll see him in Avengers: Infinity War first so this should play off what happens in that movie. We’ll see how many wrecks a giant Hello Kitty Pez dispenser can cause on July 6.

Mission Impossible: Fallout

Tom Cruise is not the box office draw he used to be. The Mummy is a prime example of that, that movie was DOA. He’s been in a few really good flicks over the past several years, however, but most of them have been the Mission Impossible movies. I don’t know if there has been a poorly made Mission Impossible movie. They’re all marked by the time they were made, but all of them were great when they were released, and it’s always dope to see what giant stunt Tom Cruise himself pulls off. We’ll get a look at the insanity of him hanging from a flying helicopter on July 27.
