Rapzilla.com’s 15 Freshman of 2017

IZZE

Atlanta-based artist IZZE only has two songs out under his current stage name (he was formerly known as IZ), but both are fire.

His singles “Amen” and “Good God” combined for 85,000 plays on Rapzilla.com’s Soundcloud, and the former charted on Billboard. Don’t be surprised if a major Gospel label signs him.

When did you decide that you wanted to pursue music?

I’ve been doing music my entire life and always wanted to create next level sounds. However, in 2013 I decided that the music I had done my whole life would either become a hobby or a means of supporting my family.

What has been the most memorable moment of your career so far?

Getting a chance to have dinner with Beyonce’s BMI director, Kirk Franklin, Israel Houghton, Isaac Carree and Marvin Sapp. I grew up listening to all of those guys, and they all were excited to be introduced to me and my vision to carry forth inspirational sound. It was pretty cool experience for the wife and I.

What should fans be on the lookout for musically from you in 2017?

A lot. In 2017, fans should most definitely expect an album, new radio music, as well as lots of new Gospel/Soul-infused, urban and futuristic sounds. It’s my goal to not as much play the Christian hip-hop card as much as it is my goal evolve what’s been traditionally known as inspirational music. In 2016, we really brought many young ears back to Gospel radio.

In 2017, I’m going to restart something that hasn’t been done since the early 2000’s. I’m going to give tribute to the beloved past of inspirational music and step into the future of it. Expect the return of the feeling you had when Kirk cut through in 1996. I believe Gospel music ironically reaches the vast majority so it’s my goal to take advantage of that traditional sound, urbanize it (not necessarily rap it) and show the future of it.

They should expect Gospel music to take a step into tomorrow. They should expect music that will make sinners and saints proud to say they listen to actual “Gospel music.”
