Tre9 spoke to Rapzilla at SXSW about discipleship, street evangelism, and what he thinks more of Christian hip-hop should do before concerts.

“I don’t think you can really come alive until you get engulfed in ministry…the stuff we read about in our Bible,” said Tre9.

He said over the years he missed out on really giving his all to ministry because he was focused on the musical aspect of his career.

Tre9 believes discipleship should be more than bringing the gospel to people. He thinks there needs to be people following up, and keeping up with someone who is just getting to know Christ.

“Leaning and learning to listen to the Holy Spirit is more important than leaning and listening to man,” Tre9 said. “The best form of discipleship for Christians is to just get out there and do it, and have someone to keep you accountable.”

The former emcee then said that he thinks Christian rappers should try and evangelize in the streets before they do big concerts in major cities. “There’s a need to hit that block in that city,” said Tre9. “If you come to Houston, hit me up, and do some mission work because we need you.”
