5 Greatest Athletes in Christian Hip Hop

Bonus: Quintin Demps

Anyone who can feature on the same track as Swoope and not get embarrassed has talent. Q. Demps, known to football fans as free safety Quintin Demps, held his own on theBeatbreaker’s song “True Stories” earlier this year.

Demps hasn’t released much music because he’s been busy with the NFL. The seven-year veteran had his best season in 2014, recording 41 tackles and four interceptions in nine starts for the New York Giants. He is currently a free agent.

1. Von Won

Michael Jordan and Von Won could dunk a basketball from the free throw line. Jordan had a better jumper, but basketball wasn’t Von Won’s best sport.

To this day, the Houston-based hip-hop artist, whose real name is Vaughaligan Walwyn, holds the Virgin Islands’ record in the long jump at 7.94 meters. He recorded the leap at the 2002 NCAA Division I Championships while at Rice and finished third. The two-time Western Athletic Conference champ earned All-American honors that year.

As the best long jumper from the Virgin Islands, Von Won said he was on pace to compete in the 2004 Summer Olympics, but he tore multiple ligaments in his knee prior to his senior season. Through he managed to participate in the 2003 Pan American Games, he never fully recovered.

Von Won’s leap of 7.94 meters would’ve been better than 23 of the 39 long jumpers who competed in the qualifying round of the 2004 Olympics.
